Rats Onboard Ship...

The Disney Dream pulls into port for cruises from Florida in January of next year...

And besides being about one and a half times as big as the Wonder and Magic, the ship also has other new features like an outdoor water slide that shoots over the side of the ship and several other cool features not seen on the Disney Cruise Line.

Today we find out what the new premiere restaurant will be named:

Remy.

Can you guess what kind of food they'll be serving?

Dream Revealed...

Well tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. the details will emerge regarding Disney's third cruise ship...

But if you check out the Disney Cruise Line website there's a great deal of information you can already glean, along with many great concept pictures of the giant toy boat the Mouse will be using come mid 2011. I know this will take the place of the Disney Wonder in Florida as it moves out here to the west coast. Come 2012 the Disney Fantasy will come into service and the Disney Magic will be placed elsewhere. There are no definite plans for a home port or destinations, but my speculation is on Europe. I don't think they'd have it come out to the Pacific Ocean for cruises to Tokyo because that would expose a lot of Disney Fans/Geeks to the Tokyo Disney Resort/DisneySEA. That would be like letting a man eating a cracker to see a steak. Well, there's always hope for Asia to get a fifth ship if bookings are beyond the Mouse's expectations.

Till tomorrow...

Port Disney's Call...

The Disney Cruise Line's expansion chugs right along...

Those of you that don't know, the cruise line owned by Disney will more than double in size by 2012 when the second of two new ships are delivered. The first one, the "Disney Dream" comes into service a little less than two year from now, in 2011, and the other, the "Disney Fantasy" approximately one year later, in 2012. Both ships are much larger than the Wonder or Magic; about 150% of their size and that's going to require some changes to Disney's private island, Castaway Cay (pronounced Castaway Key). For one, since the ships will be much bigger, they're having to dig a deeper docking area. Also, with the ships being able to hold a larger amount of guest, there will be more on the island. So many new attractions/construction are planned.

If you'd like to take a look at some of the new features this place will hold, click here.

And should you like to see the Disney Dream's keel being laid in a ceremony, click here.

Of course, once the Dream comes on line, the Wonder will head out here and finally provide the West Coast with a permanent base in Los Angeles harbor. When stationed in California, it'll go on vacations to Alaska in warm months and the Mexican ports in cooler months. As for the Fantasy, no plans have been made as to where it's home base will be, but a possible location could be Europe, if the economy comes out of its nose dive.

Dream on...

East Gets Dream, West Gets Wonder...

It looks like Los Angeles won out over San Diego...

The Disney Cruise Line announced today that the Port of Los Angeles will be the new home of the Disney Wonder starting in 2011(they've signed a two-year agreement with a three-year extension option). That happens to be the year that the Disney Dream comes online. You can expect that if the Wonder is on the West Coast then the Dream will wind up filling the void on the East Coast.

So if you're wanting a Disney cruise without having to go to Florida then you've got two years to save those pennies. If you want to experience the new ships it looks like your going to have to sail the Atlantic(at least till 2014). Although when the Disney Fantasy makes her maiden voyage in 2012; her base will be in Florida, we don't know yet if the Magic will come out west or be used for extensive cruises based in Europe.

The Mouse's cruise line will have doubled its ships a little after operating a little more than a decade. Not as many as were expected when the line was first proposed to Eisner, but still impressive non-the-less. If it expands beyond the four ships it has now, it'll probably take another decade and a lot harder search for names. After Magic, Wonder, Dream and Fantasy what is there left?

The Coming Dreams & Fantasies...

No, this is not that kind of reference...

Bob Iger spoke at the Annual Shareholders meeting in Oakland the other day and he did the usual thing. Being Mr. Positive he talked about how the company will ride out the current economic storm, but he also played a clip from Walt Disney Animation Studios "The Princess and the Frog" that got the audience going pretty good. He went on and announced several things, but one of them that slipped by me was about the Disney Cruise Line.

He finally announced the names and launching of the two ships. I already knew about one, but not the other. Both are glaringly obvious and yet, still make total sense when lined up with the original Disney Magic and Disney Wonder.

The Disney Dream will have her maiden voyage in 2011 and the Disney Fantasy will push out to see in 2012. Just thought it was a point of interest. You don't have to start packing just yet, but it's nice to know what you're going to be making reservations on, isn't it?

I'm curious what the differences in art styles(Art Deco and Art Nouveau) will be from the Magic and Wonder, I wonder...
