Serving Duck For Seventy-Five Years...

Today marks the seventy-fifth anniversary of that famous temper...

Donald Fauntleroy Duck first appeared in the short "The Wise Little Hen" on this day that many decades ago. It's with the greatest of respect that I wish DD happy birthday. Donald is after all, my favorite Disney character and he looks amazing to be as old as he is, don't you think?

Got to get ready for the party...

Get Ready To Find More Treasure...

It appears that those of us that love the duck won't have to wait too long for a completion of our collection. Today Walt Disney Home Entertainment announce wave eight of "Walt Disney Treasures".

The next volume will be in stores all across America for the holiday season. What can we expect?

Walt Disney Treasures: Wave 8

• "The Chronological Donald, Volume 4": The last of the lovable duck with the bad temper is back for his final collection of animated shorts. The two-disc set will cover Donald's shorts released between 1951 and 1961. Another great note is all these shorts will shown in their original widescreen aspect ratio for the first time. Cool beans! I'm there... I'm there.

• "Destino": This was the famous 1946 collaboration between Walt Disney and Salvador DalĂ that was never completed. Roy Disney discovered this unfinished work while researching for another Fantasia sequel. He took up the task of completing this work that had been lost in time for most Disney fans. He completed it in 2003 and was nominated for an Academy Award.

• "Dr. Syn, Alias The Scarecrow Of Romney Marsh": This is one I'm just giddy about. I was a huge fan of this story as a kid... having seen this on the Wonderful World of Disney over a series of Sundays and having actually read the novel adaption of it. It features Patrick McGoohan(The Prisoner, Secret Agent Man) as a sort of British Zorro-type character that fights the corrupt government in gloomy, old England. The DVD will feature all three episodes show on WWOD and the theatrical film version that was released across the pond.

On November 11, 2008 head out to get your copy at a store near you...

Wanna Buy A Duck?

Walt Disney Home Entertainment releases another Walt Disney
Treasures collection today.

Walt Disney Treasures: Wave 7

Three new 2-Disc DVD sets:

Oswald the Lucky Rabbit
Chronological Donald, Volume 3
Disneyland: Secrets, Stories and Magic

Of these three, the one I'm most excited about is Volume 3 of Donald Duck. I've wanted to have all Donald's shorts since I was a wee, little tyke and I'm almost there with this tin.

Go out and get one for yourself... enjoy.

Disney Serves Up Third Course Of Duck...

I know it's been reported before and elsewhere about the Walt Disney Treasures featuring Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, the Chronological Donald, Volume 3 and Disneyland: Secrets, Stories and Magic, but they've finally released the official artwork so I thought it might be time to refresh everyone's memory. After-all... December 11th is just around the corner.

Walt Disney Home Entertainment's "Walt Disney Treasures" series releases its 7th installment with three new 2-Disc DVD sets featuring rare footage presented with amazing color and sound just in time for the holidays.

Chronological Donald, Volume 3 - Features everyone's favorite navy-attired duck in Walt Disney Productions, solo shorts dating 1947 through 1950. This is the one I'm most looking forward to since DD is my favorite Disney character.

Oswald the Lucky Rabbit - Along with the Alice shorts, and before Mickey Mouse, the legendary and rarely-seen "Oswald the Lucky Rabbit" was Walt Disney's first big animated creation, and having recently returned to the Disney fold(courtesy of the Al Micheals deal), comes out of the vault for the first time ever on DVD. These silent shorts were made from 1926 to 1927 with Walt's personal touch, are revitalized with a brand-new score made specifically for this seventh installment of WDT.

Disneyland: Secrets, Stories and Magic - is a comprehensive look at the "Happiest Place on Earth." The centerpiece of this volume is a new documentary with archival footage, including Walt's own words, as well as new interviews revealing the magic and manpower behind one of the world's most famous destinations.

As in the past, each volume is hosted by Leonard Maltin. Each volume is individually numbered, with an authenticity certificate, and an exclusive lithograph in the collectible, unique packaging tins and available in a limited supply.

Now you all know what to ask Santa for...

Disney's Audobon Society...

J. Audobon Woodlore makes his first appearance in the Donald Duck short "Grin and Bear It" fifty three years ago today. The lovable Ranger will go on to star in several Disney shorts. Perhaps he would make a good character to put in DCA's Redwood Creek Challenge Trail?

Old Ducks Just Fade Away...

After more than 30 years writing and drawing "Donald Duck" and "Uncle Scrooge" comic books, Disney Legend Carl Barks retires from creating the books on this day in 1966. Although most fans of the comics don't yet know who draws those wonderful stories, over the next few years a large following begins to build.

Carl Barks didn't realize how influential he was with his Disney tales until well into the late 70's and early 80's. Always the humble man, he reflects back on his stories with surprising modesty.

We will not see another talent like his in Disney comics until the 90's gives us Don Rosa... known affectionately to some fans as "the lost son of Carl Barks"(more on him in a later post).
