An Amazing Title...

Do, do, do, do, do, do...



Sorry for the lateness in the news guys...

Spent this lovely weekend in San Diego, flipped on my Mac to find this. So Columbia Pictures/Sony Pictures has come out with the official title of "Spider-Man 4" and it's a shocker.

"The Amazing Spider-Man"

That is brilliant. Really, it is. Although I thought since this is based on "Ultimate Spider-Man," that they might call it that. I'm very happy it doesn't have a number behind it. I've always considered having just a number to be boring and unimaginative. Did the sequel to "Iron Man" have to be "Iron Man 2" instead of something like "Invincible Iron Man" possibly?

Ironically, DC lately has done a much better job than Marvel with titles. "Batman Begins," "The Dark Knight," and the upcoming "Superman: Man of Steel." Although I'd leave off the Superman and just call it Man of Steel.

I guess it makes since though, considering if they had called it "Spidey 4" then people would have wondered why we were rehashing the origin again. This gives them an excuse to go back and hit the reboot button.

Now we can look forward to the sequel "Spectacular Spider-Man" and then "Ultimate Spider-Man" I guess...

Ultimate, ultimate, does whatever a...



Wow, this has me a bit giddy...

Paul Dini is known to comic fans mainly as a DC Guy, like I consider myself actually. Now though, he appears to be helping out Mighty Marvel. It was announced today that Dini will join in the creation of the new "Ultimate Spider-Man" animated series that will be appearing on Disney XD.

Twenty-Six Versus 26...

It's like a mirror...




I've seen a lot of comments hating on Andrew Garfield because he's too old...

But he's an actor and as long as he can play the part and look the part, it won't matter. And one thing many people don't realize is that he and Tobey Maguire are about the exact same age of each other when they were picked to play the character. Tobey was 26 and he played a high school character named Peter Parker. Andrew Garfield is 26 and will be playing a high school character named Peter Parker.

Some out there are saying that this is the "Twilighting" of Spider-Man, but I really don't think so. Once he gets a haircut, I don't think Andrew will look anything like Edward. ;)

But I hear the take on the character will be much more personal this time. And I think with Marc Webb involved, the arc of the story will be a very genuine portrayal of a high school kid that becomes a superhero. One of my favorite films last year was "500 Days of Summer," and Sony picking the director of that to handle this reboot tells me volumes as to how much they care about getting the story right and caring about respecting the characters from the comic books.

Oh, and having Disney breathing down your neck, making sure you don't violate your agreement so that the rights revert back to them helps too...

The Marvelization of Disney XD had begun...

Or should that be continues? Those of you that haven't heard, Marvel announced today that an animated "Ultimate Spider-Man" will premiere on Disney XD in fall 2011. This is the second animated Marvel series to be announced for XD after "The Avengers," but it's certainly not the last. I know of at least one animated series that has been in development and not yet greenlit.

Of course, Disney Suits are combing through the archives looking for other possible characters for movie adaptations and there should be an announcement sometime this year (later, most likely) about a live-action series. Over the next couple of years you will see these characters spread out across the various Mouse divisions. What will be next?
