Monsters Attack Mouse...

Walt Disney Pictures has picked up the feature film rights to the graphic novel "Monster Attack Network" for Jason Netter(Wanted) to produce.

The story written by Marc Bernardin and Adam Freeman with artwork by Nima Sorat involves a team of experts in the South Pacific that rescue people in the region attacked by giant monsters that rise from the sea. The tale is a homage to those giant monster films from the 50's and 60's.

I wonder how this will affect Disney's long in development "The Monstrous Memoirs of a Mighty McFearless" since it's simular in terms of hunting monsters, just not giant ones...

Transplanted From Sony To The Mouse...

Sam Raimi is teaming up with the Mouse...

Walt Disney Studios has purchased "The Transplants", an action-adventure pitch from screenwriters Adam Jay Epstein and Andrew Jacobson for Raimi to produce through his Stars Road Entertainment shingle. The deal is in the mid to high six figure range.

The story is being kept very hush-hush, but it has been described as a four-quadrant ensemble superhero story with a comedic bent. I have no idea what the heck that means.

This is Disney's first pairing with Raimi, but hopefully not the last... I could see several projects the studio working on with his fingerprints on them.

Happy Little "Disney" Family...

Walt Disney Studios has purchased the high-concept pitch "Happy Little Family" from screenwriters Patrick Doody & Chris Valenziano. Writer/Producers Miles Millar and Alfred Gough(who wrote the new Mummy 3 script and turned in a draft of Disney's "Jungle Cruise" film) are producing the project.

Oren Aviv's strategy is slowly falling into place. Come the end of next summer we should get a clearer idea of where he's taking the Mouse, and more importantly... If it's working.

Time will tell...

Disney Wins Science Fair...

Walt Disney Studios has purchased the spec script "Science Fair" after a bidding war with Walden Media whom the Mouse has been producing the Narnia series with. The price Sullivan got for the script is $275,000 against $575,000.

Described as a "Night in the Museum" type story, it concerns a science fair where all the kids projects come to life and wreak havoc upon the school. Walt Disney Studios president Oren Aviv and executive vp production and development Brigham Taylor were directly involved in the acquisition.

Mickey Buys A New Pet...

The Mouse has signed David Silverman("The Simpsons Movie") to develop and direct the live-action sci-fi family comedy "The Pet" for Walt Disney Pictures. Scott Rudin and Craig Perry are producing the film whose screenplay was written by Matt Lieberman. The story centers on an everyday-kind-of-man who becomes abducted by a group of aliens and becomes their pet.

Hilarity ensues...

We will see next year if Mickey's pet was worth buying or should've been sent back to the pound. Pluto was not immediately available for comment.
