They're showing the first half(45 minutes) of "Up" in the IGN Theater this evening at 6:30pm. But if you go, I'd plan on arriving really early. I have a feeling it's going to fill up rather quickly.

I'm curious to see what this one turns out to be.

Holy crap!

Just when you think the chance Disney had to snag Spielberg and company(literally) was gone the way of the Dodo Bird... boom!

It looks like the deal for Universal to distribute Dreamworks films has fallen through and the Mouse is the one to benefit from it, according to Nikki Finke. I wonder how Jeffrey Katzenberg feels about this. I mean, I know he has a grudge against Disney, but that's really a grudge against Eisner. Yes, I know Dreamworks is two different companies between live-action and animation, yada, yada, yada.

Expect a formal announcement by Monday...

Another Competitive Poster...

A new one-sheet poster is out over at Yahoo! Movies for Dreamworks Animation's "Monsters Vs. Aliens" and it's your normal take with the characters upfront. There's not much humor or art to the poster like there was to "Kung Fu Panda," but the buzz surrounding this film is like that for the Panda...

Mickey Makes Moves On Russia...

The Mouse has acquired a forty-nine percent stake in the Russian Network, Media-One TV for the paltry sum of $233 million. This is to make sure that the Disney company has inroads for the products it makes on television. The company has had a presence in Russia at theaters for years now. The investment will be used so that Disney movies and television productions, as well as original Russian content can be shown in the former Soviet Union's biggest player...

All part of Iger's global strategy for getting the Mouse in every part it hasn't quite found an open door yet. Is this the end of Disney capitalism? I say "Nyet!"

The Most Popular Disney Character In Tokyo...

Think Mickey Mouse is the most famous character at the Tokyo DisneySEA park? You'd be wrong. That little teddy bear that he's holding up just happens to be the most popular character among the Japanese.




Duffy.

Created originally for the Walt Disney Resort as "The Disney Bear," he's now known as Duffy at the Tokyo Resort. Duffy has evolved into sort of a cultural phenomenon there. He's even got his own website on the the Tokyo Disney Resort's site. His meet and greets are where you see long lines of Japanese fans gathered just to snap a picture with him. And is the case, they've developed a back story for him. Remember, everything should have a back story at Disney. This is something the Suits forgot when building parts of DCA(Maliboomer, anyone).



Anyway, back to the back story. It appears that since this is Tokyo Disney"Sea" and everything is related to the ocean, exploration and such, Mickey was headed out to sea. The night before he goes, Minnie gave him a teddy bear as a gift of companionship. Duffy is a bear of magic and great luck and spread happiness and cheer throughout Tokyo DisneySEA.

Next time you get to TDS(you lucky bum), why don't you pick up one of these plush teddies, or a Duffy outfit, or a key chain or a...

Well, at least get in line to have a picture taken with him.
