Drawing On Personalities...

Have you ever stayed through the credits of a film?

An animated film in particular.

Ever wondered what all those credits meant? Particularly when you saw one that said "Supervising Animator" or "Animation Director" on a specific character. Well these gifted artist are responsible for giving the physical representation of the character that an actor is voicing its personality. Eric Goldberg, you remember we just talked about him a short while ago? He's as much responsible for the Genie from "Aladdin" as Robin Williams is... he brought that character to life. This is the job of a supervising animator.

Now, have you wondered who was doing each character on Princess and the Frog? Wonder no more...

I've always wondered why the Mouse hasn't had an official site with listings for all its animated films and other wonderful Web 2.0 things(clips, chronological order, info, ect.). What does John Lasseter have in mind?

Very, very interesting.

(Re)Branding...

The Mouse is rebooting/rebranding it's cable channel "Toon Disney"...

Starting in February, the channel will be known as Disney XD and try to do with boys(9-14) what the Disney Channel has done with girls(9-14).

Which is, get them to watch... so far they haven't been able to do that. The line-up will include original new shows along with established animated series as well. Time will tell if Disney can come up with something more than just a male equivalent of Hannah Montana for young boys to watch... I can't believe I just said that.

There better be a lot of explosions, car chases and general all-around action with good versus evil in these new shows is all I'm gonna say. It's not brain surgery to figure out what boys want, it may be hard to execute it, but it ain't hard to figure out...

The Genie Of Pencil And Paper...

The Animation Podcast has part one of an interview with Eric Goldberg, who those that don't know animated the Genie in "Aladdin. His Rhapsody in Blue segment of Fantasis 2000 was one of my favorite bits of that film. He's currently working on animating a jazz loving alligator named Louis in a little film that comes out next year called: "The Princess and the Frog"
