The Awakening...

Walt Disney Pictures has released the trailer to the documentary "Waking Sleeping Beauty" about the Second Golden Age of Disney Animation...

Take a look at this and tell me you don't want to see this. If you don't, then you're not a fan of Disney Animation like myself. It's a compelling story that doesn't try to hide all the ugly warts and human complexities of business, art the compromise that comes somewhere in between.

Enjoy...

What are we, Honor, 5 years old?

I own over 600 production cels and backgrounds from almost every Disney animated film and TV show, hundreds of WDCC sculptures, a bunch of props and thousands of Disney books, soundtracks and movies. I've seen every Disney film (including Touchstone & Miramax), read Disney A To Z front to back, inside out and all around, and been to every Disney park on earth.

I have zero interest in seeing this film, so I guess I'm not a "fan of Disney Animation" like yourself. It looks like a corporate puff piece spiced up with some generic 'negative' drama to psyche fanbois like yourself into thinking you're seeing the real deal.

So, personally, I'm going to pass. Guess I have to give up my Disney fan badge since Honor is now the gold standard that typifies everything Disney; must be a nice honor, Honor.

By the way, FANTASTIC sentence structure there at the end!

BTW, it's adorable how much you admire Steve Jobs and like to bag on every other exec, but the reality is - if you were sitting in the Disney boardroom - he would be the first to bite your head off. Iger would probably playcate you for a second or two, but Steve would - at best - ignore you, but most likely he'd tell you to go screw yourself.

Stick to blogging, buddy. You get it at the fan level, but everything beyond that is cloudy at best. Maybe that's why you're capable of writing a post like this and not seeing the irony in it.

Nice comeback; never heard that one before.

Your "if you don't, then you're not a fan" statement is elitist in the way it excludes Disney fans who may have a slightly different take on the company's animated output than your own.

The beauty of Disney's product has always been that it blurs differentials in personality, background, etc. and allows people to unify and enjoy an experience together. Which is precisely why I responded rather vociferously to your post - because, despite your unadulterated worship of the avuncular, non-threatening Walt of the '50s (your grasp of him prior to then seems to be weak at best), you still manage to say surprisingly exclusionary things he would have never uttered during the period in which you seem to praise him the most.

And it's simply egregious when applied more broadly: you can bet there are 9 year olds and 90 year olds alike who adore Disney animation, far more than even you do (yes, it's possible), who don't currently - and may never - care to see this film. Their reasons, my reasons, and anyone else's reasons, are just as valid as your own. That has always been the spirit of Disney's output, but that spirit seems to reside in a land very far away from the mentality driving your post. To me, a statement like "if you don't, then you're not a fan" is extremely dogmatic and amplifies the cloisteredness of your views.

Bottom line: here's a reason this film is being released and "The Sweatbox" was swept under the rug.

Maybe I should add a little "..." to the end of that last sentence to lend it a little more mystique? Sorry for the ribbing; it's just a little tempting when the tone of your blog has this sort of pseudo-deep vibe, but the content is basically just a couple steps removed from Disney press releases.

I'm late to the party but this anonymous should grab a user name and post more. That was awesome.
