Last Son Of Krypton Found...

Up, up and away...

Well, I get back from a nice leisurely weekend to find this interesting news from The Daily Planet...

Ok, it's really from Deadline HollywoodWarner Bros. and Zach Snyder have found their Man of Steel.

Henry Cavill.

He's a very good actor and seems to fit the role with his all-American looks, which is strange since he's British.  I like the look though of him more than Brandon Routh, who, although good in "Superman Returns" seemed a bit too pretty boyish.  I can't wait to see the look that Snyder gives this film.  If anything, it'll be a lot more action than the last film.  The last film didn't seem to show Superman being super enough for me.  Too much talk, too much of a retread of old material from the original film.  I await each morsel of news that Nolan, Snyder and Warner release as the days tick down to the shooting, which begins in four months for a December 2012 release.

Here's the official press release:

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures announced today that Henry Cavill has won the coveted role of Superman, the iconic superhero.

The film will be directed by Zack Snyder, who stated, “In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen. I also join Warner Bros., Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield.”

Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Deborah Snyder are the producers of the film. The screenplay is being written by David S. Goyer based on a story by Goyer and Nolan. Thomas Tull and Lloyd Phillips are serving as executive producers.

Cavill recently wrapped production on “The Cold Light of Day” and stars in the upcoming “Immortals,” opening this fall.

Targeted for release in December 2012, the new Superman movie will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Now if Warner can just secure the rights to the characters before they revert back to the families in 2013...

I think he looks the part. I can already picture the slow mo of Superman punching a bad guy. Next year is filled with spandex.

We Brits are taking over Hollywood.

Snyder's Superman continues to disappoint. This guy looks just like Routh. I want to see a Superman that looks different from the Christopher Reeve wannabees. Superman still wears his underoos? Between this and Hathaway's casting I have lost all faith in Warners.

That image looks just like the cover of Journey Escape.

He should yell 'This is Metropolis' with a posh accent.

I don't think he looks like Routh unless you have a broad definition saying that anyone with black hair, blue eyes and is white look the same as Brandon. I personally find Routh to be too feminine looking. He's too much of a metrosexual and I didn't like that when he was cast. He's ok, but I wanted a little more ruggedness. Henry seems to have more of those traits. As for him being a Christopher Reeve wannabee; he looks like Reeve because Reeve looked like Superman. THAT is what you want. Would you rather have Nick Cage play the guy? He looks nothing like Superman and they were going to use him. If you've seen those shots of him you'd realize how big a train wreck that would have been.

And if you've lost faith in Warner, you should probably restate that as loosing faith in Nolan. He's the one who is shepparding this and The Dark Knight Rises. I seem to remember many fans whining about Ledger becoming Batman, calling it all kinds of deriding names, only to fall silent when they saw the film. Let's wait till it comes out before we say it's a failure. I trust Christopher Nolan and I trust his trust in Zach Snyder.

I just want a Superman who doesn't look gay.

Christopher Nolan is producing the film? I'm excited now for this film.

I'd have faith in Nolan if he was directing it himself instead of Zack Snyder whose Watchmen doesn't inspire me with much confidence he is capable of pulling it off.

It's interesting that no one here mentioned Cavill's acting ability. Just based on The Tudors alone he brings with him some pretty strong credentials. I was excited when I heard the news.

In other words, you're trying to tell us that McG's Superman would have been better.

Jor-El--

That was a pretty bizarre statement, considering I wasn't even aware of Cavill's connection to McG until I goggled it shortly after reading your comment.

I had just recently watched all four seasons of the Tudors. I was especially impressed with Cavill playing the part of Charles Brandon, one of the more complex characters in the show.

How that somehow became in your mind an endorsement for a movie that was never made . . .

Or do you have a grudge against McG that somehow makes Cavill guilty by remote association?
