More Enchantment...
It appears that Walt Disney Pictures is moving forward with a sequel to "Enchantment" finally...
There was talk before it even came out about moving quickly to have a sequel ready to go. But despite the fact that the film was a hit, it turned out to not be the blockbuster that Disney was hoping for(Budget: $85 mil, Domestic: $127.8 mil, International: $212.7 mil). So they shifted into slow... then neutral.
Finally, it looks like things are starting to move forward. Jessie Nelson has been hired to write the script and Anne Fletcher has signed on to direct. The original producers Barry Josephson and Barry Sonnenfeld are again on board, but original screenwriter Bill Kelly and original director Kevin Lima sadly won't. It appears that there are looking for a late 2011 release date, but being as there isn't a script yet, that plan is tentative. The cast are expected to return as their contracts include sequels.
Developing...

Interesting news...Not much else I can say at this point.
On that note, I'm still hoping that we will someday see new things with the Bolt characters, whether it be new shorts, a theme park attraction, or even a sequel if the right script comes along.
PLEASE everyone, don't give me grief, I can dream, can't I? :)
After all, Walt Disney was a dreamer. :)
Late 2011 release? Peachy. Put it up against Brave/Bear and the Bow.
Way to undermine your films, Disney.
Yes I don't understand why they launch films close together like that.
Christmas Carol & PatF too.
Damn.
Wonder if this will have any animation, and if so.. done in house for a change...?
this is the one movie that I would actually like to know what happens after the happy ever after. Yay for enchanted two!
Rafa: Wasn't the animation in the first film done in house? It was fantastic.
Does anyone know if this film will also be shot in NY? My wife was lucky enough to be an extra in the first film and I would really love to see more films continue to be made here instead of on a set in LA dressed up like NY (or Toronto or wherever is cheaper)
Mike -- it was not done in-house, it was done by James Baxter Animation. Disney no longer had the capacity to do it after they shuttered hand-drawn animation.
I'm interested to see how this turns out. The first one was a mixed bag for me. It really struggled with finding the right tone.
Music, Music, Music - You made no mention if Menken/Schwartz would also return to pen the tunes for this musical sequel. I contend that one of the reasons that "Princess and the Frog" was so forgettable was because of mediocre music by Randy Newman. His material is cute but does not possess the longevity of a Menken score.
"Late 2011 release? Peachy. Put it up against Brave/Bear and the Bow."
What is Brave? Did I miss something?!
Brave is the internal project name for Bear and the Bow. That's why the commenter put /Bear and the Bow after Brave.
Interesting that Kevin Lima won't be returning to direct Enchanted II, since it's being released during the 2011 holidays along with Bear and the Bow, which is being directed by his wife, Brenda Chapman.
I wasn't that "enchanted" with the first film. Why would I go to a second?
Looks like Disney's back to making "cheapquels" again, only this time they're for the big screen. :P
To the above Anonymous, don't jump to conclusions!
It's not right.
Have you learned NOTHING as a kid?!
Where is Kevin Lima in all this? He was responsible for the quality not only of the film, but of the animation, coming from Disney Feature Animation (and being a fantastic animator himself). The conceptual melding of the two worlds was more him than anybody. Any clue/mention anywhere why he isn't directing the sequel?
"After all, Walt Disney was a dreamer."
And a smoker of 3 packs of Camel unfiltereds a day, and a shooter of stray cats on the back lot, and a VERY heavy drinker. And thankfully, an atheist.
But he sure made some great films.
I'm sure you've figured it out by now
