Mouse Movies For Rent From Fruit Company...

Steve Jobs announced the Mouse was joining 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros., Paramount, Universal, Sony, MGM, Lionsgate, New Line on a new iTunes movie rental service that would make movies available costing $2.99 for library titles, $3.99 for new releases with older high-definition films renting for $3.99 and new releases priced at $4.99. You would have 30 days to activate the title and once started, have 24 hours to finish it.

Now if the AMPTP could settle with the WGA we could get moving into the 21st Century... Apple has long seemed to have gotten it, the studios are getting it with this deal at least. Perhaps, there is a light at the end of the tunnel?

No? Sigh...

The fact that Apple has even made these deals knowing there is a strike speaks of their position. They don't care what the writers get paid as long as the public keeps buying digital media.

It's not the Producer's Guild but rather the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP).

Apple is just a distributor of content and has nothing to do with the strike. It is the AMPTP that makes these deals with Apple, but then turns around and tells the writers that digital media is an unproven market and they don't deserve any cut of the sales. It sounds like the AMPTP has a very clear idea of what sort of market there is for digital media and exactly what the distribution costs will be.
