Disney Better Than Disney...

If you want to see some more of what a fabulous hotel the Tokyo Disneyland Hotel is, then follow the link. There are tons of photos by a guy/girl that actually was able to be there over the last few days...

I sooooo want our Disneyland Hotel to look like that here in California!

Life is not fair.

I've got friends in Japan that booked a trip here and were disappointed when they saw what the DLH looked like. Mr. Iger, please build a hotel worthy of the park that lies next to it.

Wow, can we sell our Disney parks to the OLC. If we could get hotels built like this I would empty my 401k just to spend a few nights there.

I'm going to surprise everyone here and defend stateside Disney. WDW's deluxe hotel all are just as lovely as this one. Disney's all about dropping the $$$ when spreadsheets easily balance out with direct-revenue-generated hotels. Okay, so that was somewhat damning praise, but still...

The only difference is that this one is brand new and is a pretty novel concept -- extending "Main Street" (er, World Bazaar) out beyond the berm.

That said, I'll hopefully be staying there next time that I visit TDR :)

Oh and @anonymous #1

Yes, a non-box would be nice and hopefully will happen someday.

@ anonymous #2

I've often wondered about that myself. Disney would lose a lot of CM's, though, when OLC took away their discounts and complimentary admission (yes, TDR CM's don't get those benefits).

Yes, we Americans think we're deserving of more.

Were Disney to try not allowing CM's free admission, they wouldn't be able to keep the parks open. I could bet you half the staff, those that are part-time would immediately quit and you wouldn't be able to open both parks. They already have problems during certain periods (summer and holidays) having enough staffing of attractions.

They may not be willing to pay much money, but they're smart enough to know that they couldn't function the way the OLC does.

This is one of many reasons that there are differences between American and Japanese culture and one of many reasons why there are differences between the Walt Disney Company and the Oriental Land Company.

@Corruption- You have to admit though that on the whole it seems that the OLC "gets Disney" better than Disney.
Beautiful Hotel though, I hope to get back to TDLR one day (last time was pure coincedince, lucked out on a business trip).
@Anonymous #1- Yep DLR does need a new Disneyland hotel. I think even a smaller one like Paris has would be great.

@jrriddle

I'm with you 110%

OLC gets Disney more. It's pretty pathetic... :(

But, even on my last trip, they are getting into the same generic merchandise and lowered-standards (relatively-speaking, of course).

@Corruption - that's a shame about the merch. I thought that all the unique items they had were amazing. Having said that my official TDR Chip and Dale sushi set from Disney Seas still sits unopened.

Simply Gorgeous!

Interesting note though; looking at the first few pictures of the covered front entryway(the seventh and eigth picture in), I was instantly reminded of the architecture for Midway Mania, but with a different color scheme. And as I inspected the pic more closely, the awnings, the rails, the ornaments between the pillars, I was certain of a relation.

Great news! Considering that Midway Mania is the newest addition to the DisneyLand Resort in Anaheim. One can hope that the elaborate detail found on a simple "D-ticket" spells great things ahead for the rest of the resort!

The comparisons to the new concept Paradise Pier gave me the thought that the Paradise Pier Hotel could look like this if they replaced the retrofitted one that's there now. The southern end of DCA will be "Fantasy 1905 Victorian", and so should the hotel overlooking it. They could even build a bridge over Disneyland Drive with an exclusive gate.

Thanks for the link to the photos.

The Disneyfied holiday inn that we have is obviously nothing compared to this... I can't wait till the day they demolish the Anaheim Disneyland Hotel, its so out of date and unappealing... Yes, they've tried to do their best to work with what they've got but it hasnt worked. The laughable part of the situation is that there are actually Disneyland fanatics out there that would rather keep the tacky, plain existing hotel than something on the same caliber as Disneyland Hotels around the world just because its so "historic" and has ties to Walt....

Disney always puts more effort in their Japanese nephew then in their Californian son.
