Twenty-six years ago today, Walt Disney Production's "Tron" premieres. It is the first film to use computer animation in story telling... it will go on to inspire a young animator working on "Mickey's Christmas Carol" that this is the future and the next big thing. A few years later the animator leaves Disney and joins a small computer company soon to be known as Pixar. Almost twenty years later, that animator will return to Disney to save it as the head of Walt Disney Feature Animation(now Walt Disney Animation Studios)...
John Lasseter saw the future, although not as far out or the exact direction it would send him. Unfortunately "Tron" was not the box office success that the Mouse expected or wanted it to be...
But without it we wouldn't have Pixar, the many companies that have emulated it or even a revived Walt Disney animation department. For that alone we owe it a great dept of gratitude.

Star Trek 2 beat Tron by a month. Unless you don't count the Genesis effect as "story telling." But it was Tron that inspired John to pursue computer animation.
