There Is A Light That Will Never Go Out...

Thirty-seven years ago today, Ub Iwerks passes away in Burbank, California. With the exception of Walt Disney, he was the one person most responsible for the creation of Mickey Mouse. Iwerks was a legendary animation pioneer and helped Walt turn the animation medium into the art form it is today. Animation fans in general and Disney fans in particular, truly owe this great man a world of gratitude. Animation and Disney itself would look very different without his fingerprints...

His imagination and talent remain evidence that Disney can be Disney without watching the bottom dollar.....

Too bad the Disney company gives him virtually no credit. Who, aside from the Disney geeks, actually knows who he is or what he contributed?

Did you follow the link? It's to the Disney Legends page where they acknowledge his contributions.

I would say the Company gives him as much credit as anyone can expect. Ub shied away from the limelight himself, and while when he was alive he certainly could have been better treated or compensated by Walt for his superhuman animation efforts, it's not up to the Company to make sure his name is as well known as Walt's. It's Walt's name on the Company, not because he profited from the labors of others, but because it was his drive and philosophy that brought all these talents together.
