Brave Trailer...

We know it's brave, let's hope it's good...

Those of you that saw "Cars 2" this weekend got to see this in all its glory...

The teaser trailer for Pixar's "Brave" has now been released on the web. It looks lovely, and has a scale of an epic adventure. I can't wait to actually see it. Until then, you'll just have to live with this teaser.

Now, if the marketing department would promote "John Carter of Mars" as well as this film...

Actually, it wasn't in front of every Cars 2 screening out there. We were visiting some friends in Brentwood, CA, just a few miles from Everyville, and we didn't get to see it...

And BTW, what happened to being able to log in with my Facebook account? I don't feel the need to sign up for Blogger just to be able to drop a comment now and them! I guess I'll just stick with Anon for now.

Now this is interesting. I'm anxious to learn more.

PIXAR IS DEAD AFTER BRAVE! Admit it Honor Hunter! Your precious little Pixar is dead. A fourth Toy Story? Has everyone gone absolutely mad at the studio? What do you have to say about that?

Why aren't you speaking about the critical failure of Cars 2? Has Lasseter completely lost it? You can say whatever you want about Walt Disney but he was never greedy.

How are you going to defend these decisions? Pixar has become nothing more than a sell-out. I thought Lasseter and Iger were better than this but they let us all down. Pixar has completely lost it. What a shame.

Notice the blue light in the trailer, Honor.

The film looks absolutely stunning. I love the color choices. Her red/orange hair against the dark scenery just looks phenomenal. I've been following this film for the past few years online (though so little has been released) so I really can't wait.

@simmy25

I think that anon is trying to get Honor to speak about Cars 2. We all are wondering why he won't.

simmy25, you need to lose some weight because being fat means you can never lose your virginity.

Oh and all of my points are valid. A blog that speaks about Disney and all of its subsidiaries won't speak about Pixar's first failure? That's hiding from the truth. And if that's not sucking up to Disney/Pixar, then I don't know what is.

Honestly, I want to hear Honor's thoughts. I'm sure he'll say something like "It was still a box-office hit and thus is not a failure" but the negative effect of Cars 2 will be felt by Brave, which has more of an uphill climb now that Cars 2 failed critically and people begin to lose faith in Pixar.

And what about these Toy Story 4 rumours? Tell us it's not true. If it is then how can you defend that decision? It's a total money grab and almost as pathetic as Dreamworks' methods. Post this Honour and answer the questions. Then I might have some respect for you.

Add me to the list of folks wanting to hear a response about Cars 2, Honor. It's not like we're wanting you to tear down the film. It would just be nice to hear someone with behind-the-scenes access talk about Cars 2's reception. Disney/Pixar has been a good winner eleven times. Now it's time for the studio to be a good loser and admit, "Hey, the film didn't turn out as well as we'd hoped. But you know, we will try our best to make sure Brave is excellent." The silence from Pixar is almost rude.

Thank you anonymous #2! I came off a little strong and I apologize to everyone including Honor but the mere mention of a Toy Story 4 really aggravates me. Seriously, it was one of the best trilogies in cinematic history. Better than Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Godfather I, II, III. Name one trilogy where you enjoy all three films and they are all successful in every way. It cannot be done besides Toy Story.

Why would you ruin such a perfect ending? Toy Story 3 was amazing! Now there might be nothing to Hanks' comments. I sure hope so.

A few notes...

First off, I haven't seen "Cars 2" yet, so I really can't fully comment on it.

Second, I don't do reviews anymore. I may mention my feelings about a film, but I never enjoyed being a reviewer of films.

As for "Toy Story 4" rumors, they are as of now, RUMORS. I'll wait till something official before I condemn the Lamp for this.

Regarding "Cars 2" being a failure, I think is a little presumptuous. Just because it was panned by critics in no way makes this a failure. Audiences will make the final decision on this.

Lastly, "Brave" has nothing to fear from the performance or reception of Pixar's latest film. It will live or die on its own merits. And likely, it'll live very, very well.

Fair enough, Honor. I see your points. It just seemed odd that you talked about Pixar left and right, but then didn't mention that it's latest film - and the one celebrating 25 years - opened in theaters.

Honor, when will you be seeing Cars 2 and providing us with thoughts?

Audiences who recognise Pixar may well give them a break after their previous form. So Cars 2 shouldn't cause a major dip on Brave.
If the problem was Toy Story 3 then fans would be way more upset. So I'd say unless there are more people hiding that really didn't like TS3 then Cars 2 shouldn't hinder Brave too badly.

Afterall Brave is coming off the heels of Tangled which was a girl focused, actiony, princess movie, which shares the Disney name.

Audiences may also be receptive if they may get a How to Train your Dragon vibe - in relation to the sweeping landscapes.

In all Brave looks lovely so far - after all, all we have is some beautiful images to look at so far. No story yet to judge.

Regarding all this:

1) Cinemascore shows audiences gave the film an A-. That's an audience response to a film, not a critic's response, and you'd be crazy to think that critics weren't WAITING to trash this film. However, top critics like Roger Ebert, Rolling Stone and Variety all gave it good reviews. Even Entertainment Weekly gave it a B-. (Having seen Cars 2 this weekend, I have to say--disappointed because I expected more from Pixar, but it was still a fun film. It just didn't feel like a Pixar movie.)

2) Just because Tom Hanks makes a mention of a possible 4th film doesn't make it true. Until I hear it from Pixar, I won't believe it. And yes, I agree with Anon--the idea of a 4th Toy Story sounds like an even worse idea than "Cars 2."

3)BRAVE is going to be an amazing movie. The trailer, short as it is, has more heart and excitement in it than the full running time of "Cars 2." BRAVE will be great, and hopefully, redeem a bit of Pixar's cache.

4) Have you ever heard a studio say, "Well, sorry you hated our movie." Warner Bros. hasn't apologized for the disaster that is "Green Lantern," and has even greenlighted a sequel. Even if it's a mess--which "Cars 2" is not--there's no way they're going to do what you expect them to. They didn't even do that after the disaster that was "Mars Needs Moms."

"Cars 2" may not have been what we wanted from Pixar, but a perfect run from ANY studio is tough to achieve--however, my kids, all 4 of them, absolutely ADORED "Cars 2."

Which, I think, is what it's ultimately about...

PIXAR is working on some more future Toy Story stuff - including and along the lines of the "Hawaiian Vacation" short that appears before Cars 2, and that is only because there is still an audience appetite for these characters. Whether or not a Toy Story 4 feature comes to fruition still remains to be seen.

Tom Hanks full statement:

“I think they are trying to do another one. The spirit afoot is to make a fourth”.

He went on to say “Whatever is going on at Pixar headquarters is a mystery to me. I’ll wait until they blow white smoke out of the chimney or whatever it is that says there’s another Toy Story coming down the pipe”.

For One Thing said...

There is no reason to trust Tom Hanks.
With all due respect he would be the last person to know that TS4 was going to happen.
And as nice a guy he is he does have a movie to sell.

This looks good but why hasn't the MI4 trailer up yet that looks great.

Is it true what I heard about Glen Keane Honor? I know you broke the story a while back that he's flirting with leaving, but I'm hearing he's finally made his decision. And it's not one I like. IS IT SO?

scissorhands said...

Oh no no no no!!!
Please, tell me it isn't so!!!

This isn't true

Pixie Arrhh said...

I've seen people in Glendale that I've had lunch with that tell me the announcement will be made this fall. What a blow to WDAS after the great success of Tangled.

Meh. Looks ok. The animation here looks third tier. I guess it's what you get with three directors (one of whom wad fired).

Anonymous said...

So I read on another site that Disney had hired a new weirder to work on king of the elves

Anonymous said...

Glen is still at Disney.

Anonymous said...

Say that come August, my dear Anonymous.

Wow. To get so emotionally distraught over a sequel, or a possible sequel, is well,,,,just plain odd. It's just a movie. Enjoy it or hate it, it's up to you. But, it's not that important in the grand scheme of things.
