Boo, I mean, boo...
In a few weeks the holidays will begin at the Disneyland Resort...
Soon you'll be able to walk into the "Nightmare Before Christmas" seasonal overlay of the Haunted Mansion and take part in all of the HalloweenTime parties, or just walk through all the heavily layered lands of this holiday. But then there is the excitement of seeing what will happen across the Esplanade. Remember how Buena Vista Street was themed to an old fashioned celebration of the Fourth of July? It was minimal, but showed how you can take this great new entrance and turn it into something even more special. But now, the next major holiday is right around the corner and you have to wonder what is up the sleeves of Disneyland's entertainment department?
From what I hear, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised and happy. But this is the first season for the newly rebranded park, and the thought is that it will be adding layers upon layers as the years go by. So we will find areas throughout the park decked out in orange and black and other activities to go with Halloween, but it will also be a minimalistic celebration of this spooky time. This won't be as dramatic as the Christmas layover which will go all out, but unless the plans change, the areas around Disney's second gate will still be filled with enough ghosts and ghouls to delight the child in all of us. And each year, more and more theming will be added.
Now that's scary...

Monsters should get it's own overlay, it is MONSTERS, after all.
I like your Mike Punkin pic!
Are they going to do the TSMM Halloween overlay?
When are you going to report on something WDW-related, Honor? It's been ages since the last time you did just that.
I finally went to California Adventure and saw Cars Land and every building was either a shop to sell Cars merchandise or to sell food. I was hoping that when you go to Sally's you could go in one of the cones or also her office. In Docs place I wish you could see his fork lift. At Docs place it looked like a fifties diner without the burgers, instead it was expensive sit down food. It seems the suits wanted to make money over something creative!
In Disneyland I went to see Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln on the walls at the exit to the show there are pictures of inspirational people, on the wall of music legends, Miley Cyrus is the first one on the wall! She's only there because she's just a Disney product nothing more! She doesn’t deserve to be up there. They might as well put the Jonas Brothers up there too!
"Minimalistic" or "on the cheap"? Have you seen the event that they've been doing at HKD. A colleague of mine was invited to a Blue Sky meeting with WDI 6 or 7 years ago to brainstorm Halloween promotions for the parks. He told me about several ideas that I thought were very clever and a great fit for a Disney seasonal event. NONE of them were used and we're left with the lame, cheap "Not-so-scary" party (or whatever they're calling it). Very disappointing and I have no doubt that they'll cheapen wahtever they do at DCA and call it "minimalist" as if they're doing us a favor.
Any updates as to what happened to the decorations? They are not up yet. Is it a delay or just canceled?
