Something is brewing in the Hat Building...
I've been getting some interesting e-mails from people I know with somewhat cryptic statements about rather curious moves coming down the pipe line. Walt Disney Animation Studios could soon be making some interesting moves/changes soon. Just thought I'd give you a heads-up.
Progressing...

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?!?!?!?!??!
Giving us a heads up about it without giving us any hint as to what it's about is worse than just not telling us anything!!
Well, that was interesting, cryptic, and curious!
(Couldn't resist)
Thanks for the updates, Honor. I'm a long-time lurker.
Heh, can't get any more vague than that can you?
I'm going to go ahead and assume that it is nothing terribly bad....
Of course, sometimes "bad" is only in the eye of the beholder.
Still, no need to think that the sky is falling yet...
Um. pun not intended.
Now I'm going to be visiting your site 100 times a day, just to learn what this post means.
Two guesses: 1) Walt Disney Animation Studios is merging with Pixar, or 2) Walt Disney Animation Studios will focus on traditionally-animated features. Heck, I'll even add a 'wild card' guess: It has something to do with Marvel.
lame.
I have to say, this has got to be one of the most maddening posts you have ever made. lol "Somethings happening, don't know and can't say what, or even give a hint"
I've thought some more about it. Probably just schedule changes regarding the studios' lineup.
I think Honor was privy to some info he can't quite let out right now for fear of getting someone in trouble. Still, he wanted us to know that something was afoot.
Honestly, if you're not going to actually tell us anything, why post this? You haven't given us a "heads-up" about anything, you've just said that something is happening and you're not going to tell us what it is.
Could've at least said whether we should be worried or not?
Or how long we have to wait?
I'm hoping for something that will bring the studio more and more to its roots. I think thats been the goal, just not coming off quite right yet.
Just no stupid management decisions pretty please.
I heard there have been live action films cuts, I would suspect that these cuts are spreading to animation now.
If you wish to read less cryptic anonymous rumors, go to the TAG blog. Folks there are speculating that WDAS is physically moving out of the hat building and relocating in Glendale.
Response to Princess and the Frog performance, no?
"I think Honor was privy to some info he can't quite let out right now for fear of getting someone in trouble. Still, he wanted us to know that something was afoot."
Exactly.
People need to realize that while Honor usually knows more than he reveals, he can't spill the beans on everything because that will get his sources in trouble.
Things can't always be an open book.
Again, I'm sure that this is nothing to be alarmed about.
why have you added color to mickey up top?
Honor that is not cool. You've got to give us more than that. Please.
okay......here's my thought on the matter......what if pixar and wdas merged in a way so that wdas produced the 2d and pixar produced the cg. with a cg every other year and a 2d the inbetween years. and they all collectively were a part of the disney canon.....including the old pixar. same company. so why not let the kings of cg produce the cg and wdas do their thing with the 2d.
I've been thinking about this all day, and I still can't decide if this is good or bad news. I'm afraid I'm building it up in my head way too much. Infuriating.
Thanks for all the awesome updates, though, regardless how vague haha... I'm a long time follower of your blog and this post just made me have to jump in and say something.
Animated "Reactions" to what? The performance of PatF?
I heard they might move out of the hat building to a building in Glendale.
Was the colored Mickey symbolism for something to come?
I don't think a move from a building to another constitutes a "curious move coming down the pipe line." If that's the news, I don't think it's anything to get worked up over.
Pretty much due to the underperformance of PotF, this next golden age isn't going to happen people...
I'm sure that this is nothing to worry about. Now is not the time to act like a chicken with its head cut off.
And PLEASE, as far as I'm concerned, Walt Disney Animation Studios IS back to its roots.
At this point, the Studio is making BOTH hand-drawn films and CGI films.
And guess what? There is NOTHING wrong with that.
We all know (or should know) that Walt Disney loved trying new technologies.
It would be wrong to expect Disney to ONLY make hand-drawn films, that would be imposing a specific animation medium on the studio.
As long as the stories are strong, then it does NOT matter what animation medium is used.
STORY is king.
Honor, please back me up on this, will ya? :)
(P.S., you've done a fine job of making everyone panic. ;) )
...Wait, I'd better phrase it "At this point-If there are no changes..."
For all of you sticklers out there.
Oh, the mystery and suspense. It's like waiting for the end of time. With the death of one of my heros, Roy E. Disney, I'm glad there is some buzz coming from Walt Disney Animation Studios. It will take some effort to match the tenacious protection he gave the place. Here's hopin' for Fantasia III and the release of Destino and Lorenzo on the little screen as well as One By One and The Little Match Girl on the big screen.
Perhaps "Animated Reactions" refers to the type of responses Honor expected to get for this cryptic post.
"Pretty much due to the underperformance of PotF, this next golden age isn't going to happen people..."
So I guess the Second Golden Age didn't happen either, based on the tepid response to "The Great Mouse Detective?"
Sorry, but there are a lot of films in the line-up and I'm not going to doom them just because a couple underperformed. But if you're so good at knowing the future, please tell me what stocks to buy next week? Hmmm?
Being negative is being lazy.
No need to venture too far from the original post for clues:
"Something is brewing in the HAT BUILDING...

HH goes out of his way to use the word "moves" not once, but twice. Should he have used it three or four times to get the message across?
WDAS is leaving the hat building.
Much ado about nothing.
[People need to realize that while Honor usually knows more than he reveals, he can't spill the beans on everything because that will get his sources in trouble.]
It honestly doesn't matter what Honor knows or doesn't know if he doesn't even share the least bit of information.
And the way his post is set up Honor can take news credit for anything big that happens saying I told ya so. Not quite Honor, you just expelled a bit of hot air and then claimed to break the news.
Alright, come on... there's no need to get upset at Honor for posting stuff like this. Honestly, while yes, it's torture to try and figure out what he's talking about... that's the point! He never tried to "take credit" for news... he just passes on the info that he can, when he feels its safe to do so. If you can't appreciate that, then just ignore it.
Guys, this was posted days ago ... I'll leave it to you to come to conclusions.
http://animationguildblog.blogspot.com/2010/01/disneys-hat.html
"Elsewhere in the studio, a rumor is floating around that Mr. Catmull and Mr. Lasseter could be making a big announcement about the Walt Disney Animation Studio in the next week or three, but nobody's sure what it is. Maybe that the animation division is moving to a building in Glendale. Maybe that there's some new feature project. (Who the heck knows?)"
Guys,
All I can say is that something is happening and it should be announced soon. I don't know everything, I only know certain bits and what I do know could red flag certain people that I have no intention of getting in trouble. I simply wanted to let you know that things are happening inside the Lot. If you're thinking that I'm trying to take credit for something then you'd be wrong.
But hopefully I'll be able to talk more about it later next week.
Time will tell...
Thanks Honor.
People need to realize that you can only say things when appropriate without getting your contacts in trouble - otherwise, people wouldn't even have anything to gossip about.
On another note, I think we need to stop jumping to conclusions, particularly negative ones...especially those based on TP&TF not doing as well as expected commercially. (Artistically and critically, it's a true return to form, and a great film.)
Now I'm concerned... this sounds serious.
Looks like they are moving across the street to the lot and naming the building after Roy E. Disney. Classy.
http://thedisneyblog.com/2010/01/10/new-animation-building-roy-e-disney/
Does this have anything to do with it?--
D23 announced it on their twitter page;
"Just announced: New Animation building on the Walt Disney Studios lot to be renamed the Roy E. Disney Animation Building"
>>>>>
""Just announced: New Animation building on the Walt Disney Studios lot to be renamed the Roy E. Disney Animation Building"
>>>>>
Where would a NEW building fit on the main lot ?
The main lot is packed.
I can believe they would rename the old Animation Building on the main lot in honor of Roy E. Disney. That makes sense. Or it would also make sense that they rename the "Hat Building" in honor of Roy E. Disney.
The part that doesn't make sense are the various blogger reports that WDAS is moving into a NEW building on the main lot. There's just no where to put it without demolishing one of the existing buildings . Or it might be possible for WDAS to move into the old Animation Building on the lot , but the question then is WHY ? And what becomes of the Hat Building ?
Honor - is the move/Roy E. Disney Animation building the move? It doesn't sound like that's what you meant.
