Another Bite Of The Apple...

The way we get our entertainment could see another earthquake in the traditional media, just like the one caused by the iPhone, come 2010...

It appears that the Walt Disney Company and CBS as well as several other media outlets are considering joining Apple's rumored subscription based content service. It appears that Bob Iger's quest for new revenue streams to replace the old ones have led him back to his board room.

That purchase of Lala which the Little Fruit Company made just days ago is part of a strategy for streaming content to electronic devices (hello Tablet!). TV's, iPhones, laptops, ect. and the like are being planned for a service that may launch next year. The $30 price is about half what the cable company charges you and it would be specific to your preferences. No need to get several channels in a language you don't speak simply because it was "part of the package."

Right now, Jobs and his dark sorcerers are out convincing the entertainment big wigs that this is the way for them to go. If he's able to gather more companies like Disney and CBS, then you're likely to see some interesting moves come next year. Presuming of course, that it'll be ready to go by then.

The refusal to offer a la carte pricing is going to kill the cable industry. I got rid of cable two years ago and never looked back.

Apple is making a huge mistake. I can get Netflix streaming to my PS3 for $9 per month. Apple TV wasn't as successful as they had hoped either. Who wants to pay $200 for a video vending machine that they have to keep feeding with their credit card to watch movies? Apple=FAIL

Yeah, and the iPhone will be a huge failure.

This isn't like Netflix with movies, it's more like CBS, NBC, ABC, HBO, TNT. Get it? Television content. Shows more than movies. Picture being able to only watch the shows you want to watch and being able to watch them when you want.

Apple=SMART, sorry Steve.

Who will pay a subscription to watch FREE TV? I bitorrent all of my favorite shows like 24 (commercial free too, btw) so why would I pay Apple $30 a month just to watch something I can watch anytime for free? I could even buy them blu-ray for less!

Netflix streaming is awesome but most movies are pretty old. You still need to get DVDs sent to you to watch the new stuff.

Steve Austin, not everybody wants to dredge through torrents to find the real ones. Tell the general populace where to get free movies and TV shows and you're going to see a huge spread of viruses and malware when their PCs get hammered up on those torrent sites. You really need to have a good anti-virus, spyware program, and a browser on lockdown before you visit torrent sites. Just having Norton isn't going to cut it. Internet Explorer is decimated by sketchy web sites.

Pirate crap all you want, but Apple isn't competing with The Pirate Bay nor should they.
