The Lamp's Parade Debuts...
Those of you that have heard about the Pixar Play Parade that starts in the middle of March have finally seen the artwork. Now that Disney's released videos featuring concept art I guess it's ok to post it...
Marilyn Magness, the Director Creative and Parks Entertainment is a very talented lady. She's in charge of Steven Davison's fun and interesting parade that is more traditional than the Block Party Bash we had before(no long stops for this one). PPP is kind of a hybrid between a traditional parade over at Disneyland combined with the Hong Kong parade. It actually looks a lot like Dr. Seuss meets Pixar... these floats are very detailed and very trippy. Fun stuff. Just wait till you see what she's cooking up for DCA's tenth anniversary.

Disney's California Pixar Land
finding nemo portion looks lifted straight out of the musical playing at animal kingdom.
Spokker, Pixar characters are Disney characters just like the Muppets and others. Heck, even Lucasfilm's Star Wars and Indiana Jones characters could even be associated with Disney. Get over it. When Disney finally makes an animated film that's a success you can expect them to have those type of characters in the park. If you want to gripe, then do so at the Eisner and Stainton for making such sucky films after pushing out Katzenberg. It was after he left that the films started going down hill. Hopefully we'll soon have some hits with Bolt, Princess and Rapunzel.
I love Marilyn! Can't wait to see this one, and hope it lives up to Block Party!
Just a little correct. Marilyn is not the designer of this parade, Steven B Davison is, and same with the DL 55th Parade.
I liked Eureka, it's too bad it's just Pixar parades now.
"When Disney finally makes an animated film that's a success you can expect them to have those type of characters in the park."
While parades have historically been based on already existing properties I do lament the fact that much of DCA 2.0 is character driven. I'm feeling the Pixar oppression in Tomorrowland as well, where Buzz and Nemo have both invaded.
My gripe isn't that I think Pixar characters aren't Disney characters and that I want to see different characters in the park. I yearn for the days when not everything was pirates, princesses, and Pixar.
now if only we can get the blue sky update for disneyland Honor?????
Since Honor apparently forgot to cite sources, the Nemo float concept art and the video featuring the concept art was posted at MiceAge's Dateline Disneyland column on Friday written by yours truly.
You can read the column here: http://micechat.com/forums/blog.php?b=262
You can watch the YouTube video that the concept art came from here:

Also, Marilyn might be talented, but she definitely didn't design this parade. Jody Daily designed all of the floats. For Disneyland fans and collectors out there, Daily is most recently and probably most well-known for the involvement in designing many of those really cool Disneyland 50th Anniversary collectibles with Kevin Kidney that DisneyShopping.com sold during the anniversary.
Kevin made a note of Jody's involvement in Pixar Play on his flickr account: http://flickr.com/photos/miehana/sets/72157601848341798/
Sorry Jason,
That was bad wording on my part. I didn't mean to say she designed it, I meant that she was in charge of making it go off properly.
Hey Andy,
I didn't know that Miceage posted the video. If you notice I put the link to the YouTube video in my post. A friend e-mailed me the YouTube link and that's why I felt it was time I said something about it... those testing runs of it start next week. If I'd gotten the video and such from Miceage I would have given it a "Hat Tip" like I do in my post where I find something someone posted that I found interesting. No offense...
As for who is doing what-
Steven Davison is VP of Parades and Spectacles for DCE.
He is the head guy for that entertainment product, and obviously has a hand in all projects that he is responsible for...more likely on the creation/conceptual side.
Marilyn Magness is now a Creative Director for DCE...she also comes up with concepts and creative ideas for parades and spectacles.
The actual designers who physically design the material vary from each project...with Pixar Play it is Jody Daily.
Each person has a different job...with some things crossing over each other...but in the end, they all are responsible for new product.
just to clear things up.
Spokker, get out of here!!!
Spokker, please stay! You're one of the main reasons I read the comment section.
Wow Spokker,
You've developed quite a following on these comment sections eh?
I've seen some of this art up on several sites over the last couple weeks. I don't think Honor was trying to not credit anyone. I've always noticed him leaving a note as to where he came across something.
"You've developed quite a following on these comment sections eh?"
I'm a self-described Disneyland purist and usually people like me are either loved or hated.
Hell, sometimes purists can't stand other purists! I knew a guy who thought that there shouldn't be electronic cash registers on Main St and that the old style mechanical kind should be used instead.
Now that's crazy even for me.
Brief moments of sanity does break into your mind Spokker.
Jody Daily designed the FLOATS, NOT the parade. Shes a Scenic Artist. Steve Davison is in charge of ALL Disneyland Parades and Spectacles.
