Pixar Short On Magic...

Animation World Magazine has a great article about Pixar Animation Studios new short "Presto"...

The short, directed by Doug Sweetland debuts in front of "Wall-E" next month. It's a nice read that helps you understand animation and the Pixar way of doing things... it's always nice to see the perspective of those that create these wonderful shorts and to get a glimpse behind the curtain, behind the Lamp.

Have a looksie...

Honor - I noticed in the article that Sweetland mentions the Pixar brain trust and named a bunch of the big name directors except for Brad Bird. I always thought he was part of it. Am I wrong?

After reading The Pixar Touch, which mentions that Brad is the first director that was hired from the outside, and also seeing that he will be working on the live action 1906 for WB (and Pixar), it's possible that Brad really isn't?

Can you explain his role? I'm just curious. Thanks.

Sounds like fun!

Brad Bird is definitely in the Brain Trust. He was possibly too busy working on Ratatouille at the time, or maybe even on vacation afterward.

I thought this entry was about Pixar's lack of magic. It should have been titled "Pixar's Short on Magic..."

The title got you to read it, didn't it?

Interesting article. It seems that there may be a generational thing going on between traditional and CG, where they are going back to "How to Animate: 101" by going back to the classics (cartoons and animators) in the process of coming up with how to do this one. It almost seems that it should have been traditional, hand drawn. It will be very interesting to see the reactions and results of this one, and how it affects things over at WDFA. Looking forward to seeing it.
