Critics Find Treasure and Folly...
Well, the Genie is out of the bottle and the reviews are pouring in...
They're mostly positive(except for The Hollywood Reporter) and should give most Indy fans a sigh of relief that this, at the very least won't turn into another "Phantom Menace"...
Here's the roll call...
First, the trades:
Variety
The Hollywood Reporter
And let's not forget the newspapers, starting with Tinsel Town's own famous newspaper:
The Los Angeles Times
Or how about the Chicago Sun Times very own "Uber-Critic", Roger Ebert:
Ebert
Then there is the Gray Lady herself:
The New York Times
Then there is the website reviews:
Salon
Cinematical
Our friends over at "Ain't It Cool News" have given their thoughts:
Harry
Moriarty
Quint
Massawyrm
Capone
Garth Franklin over at "Dark Horizons also post his thoughts:
Garth
And then there's the Disneysytric "Jim Hill Media"' and its take on the film:
Jim Hill
Blue Sky Disney's review of the film will/should be up later this week, btw.

I look forward to your review!
The critics didn't exactly "thrash" Phantom Menace, either.

We'll all see come this weekend whether or not the critics were "right." Remember, they hated Speed Racer and many of us loved it ;)
I highly recommend posting a link to Roger Ebert's review at rogerebert.com. Very concise and insightful (not that I have seen the movie yet). Plus, he's a big fan of Raiders, such as yourself, Honor. It's part of his Great Movies list. So it's nice to hear his thoughts on how each of the films relate to one another.
PS. Love your blog!
Done and done, Roger... uhmm... I mean anonymous.
Why didn't you do the same for Prince Caspian?
Have you any interest in it?
Will you go to see it?
Honor hates Jesus.
I'm seeing it later this week, scissorhands...
Dude, he doesn't have to do this for a film he doesn't want to. It's his blog, he can post whatever he wants. I obsess over Disneyland crap, and while I likely wont see Prince Caspian till DVD, I'm freaking out over Indiana Jones. Who wouldn't be? Sheesh!
Why aren't you talking about how good Disney's own Prince Caspian was? It's disappointing that such a good movie like Narnia has been overshadowed by all the big May premieres like Sex and the City and Indy. Oh well. I hope they make the next Narnia film regardless of the underwhelming box office numbers.
I've only seen Raiders of the Lost Ark and while I enjoyed it and appreciate the cultural significance, I must say that I am one of the few not excited for this film. I love the ride however.
Honor,
Where is your review?! I've been desperately waiting since Tuesday!
I look forward to hearing your view of the film. Hopefully the silence isn't due to a disappoitment-induced coma. Thanks.
Sorry, the review hasn't been posted because of server issues...
Hopefully I'll have it up later tonight or early tomorrow.
Can't wait, but we want a Prince Caspian (hopefully positive) review too... ;P
Yes ...Yes.... Please, Review "Caspian" a.s.a.p
Don't forget about other good movies like Narnia amidst all the Indy craze!
Narnia’s correlation to “other good movies” is entirely personal opinion. Personally, I didn’t find it all that good. It was better than the first film though (but then that isn’t really saying much).
Narnia is awful compared to Pan's Labyrinth. Now THAT is a real fantasy movie.
You'd do yourself well to skip the new Narnia and rent Pan's Labyrinth instead. If you have kids, it's rated R, but I think over 14-year-olds could handle it depending on their maturity level.
It really is a wonderful movie and puts the Harry Potters, Narnias, and all those other kid's movies to shame.
It turned into another Phantom Menace, anyway, didn't it? And you're among the voices trying to help that along.
Because thirty-somthing whining babies can't stand the fact that they aren't ten anymore, they attack an entertaining film like "Kingdom" or "Phantom Menace". Wake up. Most people like both films. It's only sad people like you who attack them.
