Honoring History...

Congratulations to Senator Barack Obama on winning the election to be the 44th President of the United States of America.

No matter which side you were on, it was a historic occasion for anyone watching. May God grant him the wisdom to make the right decisions over the next four years and the ability to carry them out...

Also thanks to Senator John McCain for an eloquent and dignified concession speech. Americans may disagree on many things, but it still amazes me how the transfer of power is handled here compared to many countries that change governments, not through ballots, but bullets.

Now, back to talking about Disney...

I was there when McCain gave his great speech, and I hope my fellow Republicans will give their prayers and support to Barack Obama, because we're stuck with him either way. I hope he makes our country proud.

The Hall of Presidents at the MK is now still, awaiting a new arrival. Although I did not cast a ballot for Mr. Obama, I will follow him as my president. My understanding is the current president will no longer give a speech before that of Mr. Lincoln. I believe this would be an error. Obama speaks with an inspiring eloquence, and African-Americans, who are so proud at this moment, would help fill the seats of tis overlooked venue. I say this in the respect of defeat, Disney should let Obama speak.

Well said, Honor.

Hope for the best. Prepare for the worst. Not a bad plan for any presidential election. They are all, after all, politicians first and foremost.

Well said Kevin.

Again, well-said, Honor. I wonder what would have happened if the John McCain who made that wonderful concession speech would have been the John McCain who we had experienced as he campaigned for President the last 20 some months?

This is history. Though I voted for John McCain, my prayers are with President elect Barack Obama. Here's to selecting a great cabinet. Bob Iger put it best when he said that he wants to hire people better than him in key departments.

"My understanding is the current president will no longer give a speech before that of Mr. Lincoln. I believe this would be an error."

That was the rumor spread on the Internet, but it turns out to be incorrect. The Orlando Sentinel recently ran an article about the HoP rehab, and interviewed WDI senior show writer Pam Fisher. Here's a snippet:

The show has always featured a speech by the Lincoln figure. In the 1990s, Disney began adding a second speech by the current president. Bill Clinton and George W. Bush recorded their addresses, and Disney hopes to entice the next president to do the same.

“We’ll do everything in our power to make it so,” Fisher said. “We’ve been really lucky so far. It is quite an experience to arrive in the White House and actually be present when the president records his speech for the Hall of Presidents.”

When the show reopens next year July 4, a third figure, George Washington, will also be given a speaking part.

I hope that President-elect Obama will agree to participate. And I'm definitely looking forward to hearing the Washington speech.

I am inclined to agree with Chicken Little more now than I was before the election.

Still, with the other comments in these gratefully dignified posts, our hope dawns anew in the peaceful passage of presidential authority and congressional power. McCain's concession is a model for forward movement. United we stand and grow and serve one another.

Now back to the world of talking animals: the next one to teach me that humility and strength are valued best when they stand together will be Bolt.

Don't try and pretend you like President Obama now you Disney Lemming.

Once he's in power for a while he'll take care of all you boot-licking capitalist drones. One way or another, the revolution is coming to talk radio, the internet and all the other right wing strongholds. The only way to free society from such war mongering is to dismantle it with its own devices.

Welcome to the new world.

Love your blog... read it every day. Don't think I ever posted a comment though...

Good point about the peaceful transition of power. America is great in many respects. Let us not forget what made us great.

Historic election... yes. The knee-jerk reaction against "Bush" is astounding and equates to 'throwing the baby out with the bathwater.' The mythology of Obama is interesting, but at the same time a little scary in many respects.

This President-elect is a Socialist (by definition) confirmed with words out of his own mouth. America was founded, created and made great by rebelling against these Socialist principles. Let us not forget this.

If America is to remain great, we must NEVER forget this. Please, at least, teach your kids the history of America and how we became such a great nation.

I am very glad that my daughter will grow up with a black president - but at the same time, I never taught her to distinguish color, so this is not an issue for my family. The fact that he is a Socialist/Marxist in ideology - is important to study, and I will be teaching my child the differences of thought. As she grows up, armed with the facts, she can decide on her own which 'change' is deemed 'necessary' for this great country.

Do most Disney fans skew conservative?

Eric you do realize John Mccain is more of a socalist for being the biggest supporter of the bailout and also siding with the republican party to nationalize the banks.

Obama is simply going back to the tax system used by Bill Clinton in the 90s and if you want to stay misinformed and brainwash your daughter go ahead the rest of the world will move on without you.

Dear Obamabot, aka "Anonymous",

McCain is not as conservative as some would like, but by no means is he "more Socialist" than Obama. That's simply intellectually dishonest.

Obama is proposing, and has openly talked about, much more than simply going back to the tax plan of Clinton... I think you're the one that is "brained washed".

I won't "mis-inform" or "brainwash" my daughter -- I'll simply give her the history and facts and let her decide.

You state, "...the rest of the world will move on without you..."

You're false bravado is your weakness.

Best,

Eric

No, I skip over that wacko's posts.

But what is Obama's opinion of the DCA expansion???

Kevin S. Willis said...

Obama considered the DOA expansion another example of capitalism run amok. But he will take care of it. Once all theme parks are nationalized and renamed "Command Economy World", we can all ride the "Equality of Outcomes" coaster we've heard so many rumors about.

BTW, as for the election being a "knee-jerk" reaction against Bush, I think history says something different. On average, the incumbent party in the Whitehouse changes every eight years. 2010 and 2012 will tell us if we are going to start seeing a similar trend in the congress.

That being said, politicians are mostly all politicians. The inauguration of Obama will bring many changes, to be sure, but at a fundamental level it's going to be: meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

Just look at how he's staffing his cabinet. It's 1992 all over again!

BTW, I'm stoked they are giving Washington a speech. I hope they pick some from one of his inaugural addresses or his Thanksgiving address, and don't shortchange us on the Christianity out of some need to be politically correct, as Washington invoked God constantly.

Washington's religious beliefs have been hotly debated over the years. He invoked God in his speeches and letters, but rarely wrote about or discussed it in any great detail.

Apparently he was some kind of Christian deist, according to some historians.
