He's Mad All Right...
It's official...
Johnny Depp will play the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland" live adaption of the Lewis Carroll classic.
I can't wait to see him in make-up. Actually, I'm looking forward to the trailer for this one...

I always thought Depp's costume in "Willy Wonka" was similar to the Mad Hatter. Can't wait to see this.
Honor isn't this movie suppose to be made in motion capture like Beowulf?
that would mean that what we see will be mostly computer generated images of Johnny.
Could you verify for us, somehow i remember reading that somewhere
I want to be excited for this but Depp and Burton's WONKA and subsequent SWEENEY TODD, both of which I greatly looked forward to, left me cold.
I enjoyed Sweeney Todd. Wonka didn't do it for me. Either way, I'm looking forward to this.
Like Honor, I'm definitely excited about seeing a trailer. Any word when something might come out?
It's my understanding that the plan for "Alice in Wonderland" is that the "real" world will be live action and Wonderland will be CGI. I don't expect we'll actually see Johnny as the Mad Hatter in the film.
im looking forward to this. i have great faith tht he will do an amazing job. he is perfect for this role. right when this movie idea came out i was already thinking johnny depp should be mad hatter.
There was also a rumor that Depp was going to play Tonto in the upcoming Lone Ranger film. Has that been confirmed? I am pretty excited about roles.

Judging from the various accounts I've read online today, including Variety's story, Dick Cook and Depp appeared to announce that 1) Depp would be the Mad Hatter in Burton's Alice in Wonderland (via motion capture cgi), 2) Depp will be Tonto in Bruckheimer's The Lone Ranger, and 3) Depp will star in a 4th POTC movie.
