Selling The Future's Past...

Since there's so much "Tron" talk going on right now, I thought it would be nice to take a look at some of the posters used to sell us on journeying into that world...

Ahhh, the 80's. Gotta love it!

What I find interesting is that Jeff Bridges, the "star" of the movie, and arguably one of the better known actors in the movie (then as well as now), is not featured on any of the posters.

I suppose, though, at the time Jeff Bridges didn't really have "opening" power, and it was really more important to make people understand the concept of the movie than merely who was in it.

Actually, he's in two of the posters. He's the one in the Lightcycle...

Man, do those take me back. After I first saw the trailer for Tron in 1981 (I'm thinking) I looked forward to that movie in a way I had never looked forward to a movie before. Except maybe Superman II (in which case, I was bitterly disappointed, but that's for another time). I'd stare at every poster in the movie theater lobby until my parents made me go in to the film. And I'd pray that the Tron trailer would be attached to the film (it almost never was). And then when it came out, I begged and begged until I got see it. I think I may have talked them into letting me see it three or four times.

I'm very much looking forward to this movie.

BTW, I always thought Jeff Bridges being the worried looking guy in the light cycle on the posters he did appear in was a little strange. But, c'est la vie. Loved the first Tron, "warts" and all. I expect I will enjoy Tr2n tremendously, even if it is not the perfect realization of the sequel I've been waiting 26 years to see.
