Time, Memory And Healing, Eight Years Out...

Time passes so quickly we sometime loose track of where we've been while heading where we're going...

Today is the eighth anniversary of the attacks on 911. 2,974 people died in the attack on the World Trade Center, Pentagon and Flight 93, which crashed in a field near the small town of Shanksville in rural Somerset County, Pennsylvania. It was the largest loss of life in an attack on our homeland, in the history of America.

God bless the souls of those that were murdered that day and the families they left behind. I can't say the same for the terrorist that carried it out. No one can imagine what it was like to be on those planes or be the relative of someone that lost their life that day. I can feel a bit of their sense of loss since my parents were in an airport waiting to board a flight when it all happened. My family was coming out to California for a special occasion, but all flights were cancelled and they took their bags; avoiding all the chaos at the airport, and went home to watch all the horror unfold on television.

Luckily for me, my parents weren't on one of those planes. Although I imagined in the days and nights that followed what I would have done if they had been. I feel for all those that lost loved ones and can't fathom the hole it must have left in their hearts.

I can remember how I felt when it all came down, how it felt like time had stopped when those planes struck the Twin Towers. No one knew what was happening or if they would be next.

No one still does, but memories fade. Perhaps that's how humanity deals with the pain and the sorrow of loss... but it also leaves one with a false sense that everything is just fine and back to normal.

Nothing is normal anymore... hopefully with places like Disneyland and great Disney animated films we can escape a little of the sadness and heartache, but we should never forget what happen on that dark day in September.

Ever...

Congratulations. You've just advertised Disneyland as the next target of a terrorist attack.

Anonymouse said...

Yeah Anonymous, I guess over these past few years you haven't seen the reports that Disney World was one of the places terrorist were thinking of attacking.

No, instead it'll be Blue Sky Disney's fault.

Anonymous said...

So has the Superbowl. Guess we can blame Bruce Willis for that one. Yippi Ki Ay mutha...

Truecoat said...

Yeah, some terrorists are sitting around in front of a computer thinking, "Hmmm, where should we attack next?" "Wow, this guy mentioned Disneyland on this Disney blog, that's a great idea! We would have never ever thought of that."

Of course, that's ridiculous. Any place that has many many people could be a target. I live in the midwest and a lot of people in the area thought that Mall of America would be a target. Yeah, it and a couple hundred of thousand other places.

Hans Gruber said...

Yeah but you gotta admit if you were a terrorist Disneyland is just about the perfect target to inflict maximum terror. MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Just a note, Guys...

Please make sure your comments are respectful. I tend to let people rant on with very little censorship, but on this subject I ask that you respect the memory of those that were killed and the families that live on.

Inappropriate comments will be removed...

You should delete them all, Mr. Hunter. I am appalled by the insensitivity. You people should be ashamed of yourselves.

I don't expect amusement parks to be targets. The World Trade Center was selected because it's a major financial center. That does more damage than a theme park.

Living in NY, I can't really describe what it was like to be a student and watching this unfold. Truly horrible. I was young and I didn't even understand that I almost lost family members that day.

My prayers go out to everyone who lost anyone on this day.

Hunter:

Thank you for remembering. My 7 year old son was asking me today why all the flags where lining the Main Street of our town. After a brief kid level discussion he said;

"But Dad, they didn't succeed because we are still here" Out of the mouth of babes.

America is strong and we will remain as long as we never forget the loss.

Anonymous said...

^^^ ignorant bastard

Spokker said...

I'm not sure if they succeeded totally or not, but let's not pretend that the attacks on 9/11/01 have not affected us.

First, we have lost civil liberties and freedoms that we have once enjoyed. When a dude taking pictures of trains at New York's Penn Station is arrested under suspicion of terrorism, something is clearly wrong. Don't forget the Patriot Act, of course.

Second, our paranoia continues to get the better of us. The terror alert chart is and was a joke.

Third, we still haven't caught Osama Bin Laden. I don't know about you, but when he dies without being brought to justice, that's some level of success.

Spokker -

Thank you for your opinions:

My final three thoughts p

First: Every Sept 11 we should all take a moment and remember those Americans that lost / gave their lives and the families they left behind.

Second: I chose to not go into details with my 7 year old. I kept it simple for him and as he grows up we will talk a lot more about what American and America lost on that morning.

Lastly: I agree that it has totally affected this country and everyone that calls it home. We have lost freedoms but I will not let Fear control my life.

Moving on but remembering always

In times like this I find it hard to understand Americans. This was a sad tradegy, but you all seem to take it like a personal attack on yourself. Even though only a small percentage of your population are actually affected.

Mourn the dead by all means, but jeez get over yourselves.

This isn't an isolated case, this is happening all over the world.

why'd you delete my comment?

that's out of order!

let's be fair here, there was nothing offensive in there

seems to me you do not like america being critised

seems to me you want to promote the us and ignore the rest of the world and treat it like an ugly step child

Anonymous said...

can you re-post the parts of my comment that were'nt offensive then??

Xavier Van Woolstome said...

Sorry Anonymous, but this is not a post that is acceptable to talk about the problems of America.

Any post of that nature, regarding the 911 attacks can come off "as we deserved it." It's simply not an appropriate place for that kind of discussion. If you want to talk about America's faults, there are plenty of other blogs and other times you can do it.

On a day like this, you don't poor salt in people's wounds and say something like, "this wouldn't have happened if you.."

Every country has problems but you don't go around talking about your faults to people, do you? When you meet someone, the first thing you'd say is, "let me list all my bad qualities."

And don't get me wrong, America isn't a perfect country, but if you or anyone is implying that we deserved to get attacked that day because of something, anything.. you'd be wrong. Nothing was done to justify that attack. And the reason for it wasn't because of anything that America had done. We were attacked for what we were and what the attackers weren't. Plain and simple.

Anonymous, this post was put up to honor people's memory...

It's not the place to get set off arguments about politics.

Sorry, but I don't want people going off subject...

Anonymous said...

It was on topic. And it wan't disrespectful to the US. Never said that 9/11 was deserved. I am voicing disappointment and disgust that other people (including this blog and people who comment here) want ot ignore the losses of the world in favor of the losses of the US. For that I say you should get over yourselves. I made the arguement that if this was an attack on the US like you all go on about constantly (as though it is a direct attack on yourselves) then why did people from across the world suffer?? Why do you not honor those people??
Jonathon T seems to think that this anniversary is to remember the US citizens that died. But it isn't, I find that offensive. I believe I made that point.

I'm angry at you Americans who don;t want to acknowledge the rest of the world.

For this I will always remember the people that were lost from foreign soils, who should still be alive. But I will never honor the US lives that were lost.

And you're stupid for censoring the previous comment. I don't believe there was anything said there that wasn't a true comment. I never disrespected the people that died, never wished it on anyone. Get off your high horse.

If you don;t want a political debate... Stop posting political topics dumbass.

"but I will never honor the US lives that were lost"

Hey idiot, that is distrspecting those who died. Maybe you should go back to school wherever you came from and start learning common sense instead of anti-America stuff.

Anonymous said...

Yea fella I guess you can't read either moron. Read the whole thing and understand what was said and then you shall be enlightened.

I guess the US school system is as bad as they really say.

Spokker said...

"Sorry Anonymous, but this is not a post that is acceptable to talk about the problems of America."

You say it's not acceptable. I say it's patriotic. If the people who died on 9/11 were anything like us, they would probably be mad about some of the things going on right now too.

Optimus Crime said...

That's it Spokker, speak for the dead. I'm sure you talk to them regularly.

Elite Medium said...

Hey Retard,

If you notice, Honor talked about the "2,974 people died in the attack on the World Trade Center," NOT 2,974 Americans that died on that day. YOU read that into your own bias, not him.

He was talking about honoring all of them and you were ranting about how America doesn't want to "acknowledge" the world. The only thing he mentioned about America was that it was the largest loss of life on an attack in America. But I guess you interpreted that as "America hates the world!"

And then you talk about not honoring the US citizens? But you'll honor everyone else.

Gee, I can't imagine where anyone would see anything negative in what you were saying. Not at all.

Spokker said...

"That's it Spokker, speak for the dead. I'm sure you talk to them regularly."

Yes, because everybody who died that day was an alien species that was not anything like us.

Anonymous said...

Elite Medium... dude you are stupid.

Never said Honor. I like that guy, except when he is censoring innocent comments. Like mine.

I was talking about the morons in the comments above.

Anyway, why are you arguing with me about this?? Haven't you got anything better to do?? I'm a troll, what are you if you're going to come back everyday to repremand me??

Eitherway this is still a political topic and shouldn't even be on this blog if you don;t expect... a debate or a bit of hate.

I don;t go on about the bombs that went off near my home every year on the anniversary anyway? Lots of people died then? Whatever.

Honoring 911 victims is not a political debate anymore than honoring soldiers, police, fireman or whoever on Memorial day is.

The topic was to honor those that died, not politicize it.

Tards.

I think a tribute to the largest attack on America IN HISTORY, a worthy post, Anonymous.

Your callous remarks make it seem like Honor post something every time someone gets shot and you know that's not the case. And if you've read this blog long enough you know there is a post on 911 to honor those dead every year on this occation. You do no service to yourself or your cause keeping up this whining about a simple post that attempts to respect those that died on that day.

As Americans we must never forget what took place the morning of 9/11. We must never forget the lives of the people lost in and near the Twin Towers, at the Pentagon and in that field in Pennsylvania, where the passengers rose up and said no more and crashed their plane. There were firemen, policemen, ordinary citizens, all who were involved in acts of heroism that day. Brave sons and daughters would answer the country's call and go after these scum to wipe them out. We were a nation united in gried and determined to revenge the fallen. However, over the years, politics has intervened. That once unified feeling is largely gone. The sense of danger is gone, but it is still out there. Within this blog I read about targets, which included beloved places like WDW. Certainly, the terrorists have considered it. But, as Americans, we must understand the nature of the enemy. They will strike what is dear to us. We must alway be on our guard, forever vigilant. We let down our guard for an instant, that is when they strike. If indeed they succeed, what are we to do, point fingers, wallow in our grief and saddiness. No, we must rebuild, rebuild even stronger. This is the only way to combat evil, to look it in the eye and say, you won this battle, but the war is long and I'm going to tough it out.
