An Unexpected Honor...

This would have been up yesterday except Blogger decided to go bat-crazy and refused to let me log in...

John Lasseter is a man of many awards and now, he can apparently add another one to his growing collection.

The Producers Guild of America will award the head of Disney Animation their David O. Selznick Achievement Award in Motion Pictures. This will be the first time someone in animation has won this award. When I heard that I was trying to remember if Walt had won this, but I believe it was the Thalberg award I was thinking of. The award will be given at the PGA Awards on January 24.

Congrats to El Mousetro...

Animation looks like its full of "businessmen climbing a corporate ladder" type producers instead of "schtupt rich little old ladies" type producers, by which i mean guys with grit who came from nothing, strive for everything they got. they are the heart and soul of the this guild.

The PGA Selznick Award for lifetime achievement is a fairly recent honour. They've only been giving these out for about 10 years.
The Thalberg is awarded by the AMPAS (Oscars) also for a producer's body of work. Walt won his in 1941. Coincidentally, Selznick was the previous recipient in 1939. Another odd fact is that Walt received a replacement award, after Norma Shearer (Thalberg's widow) had a new bust made of her late husband, since she objected to the design of the first award.

The Selznick Award is a terrific honour for Mr Lasseter, there'll be no talking to him now...
