The First/Last Keynote...

The bitter, inside details...

The Los Angeles Times has a great story on how Dick Cook's firing (and yes, he was actually fired as several Bothans have now informed me) went down. It's really sad to see Dick Cook fired from a company that he didn't just work for but truly loved. He had the Mouse in his DNA.

I have a feeling he's going to make a big impression somewhere else, either as a studio head or perhaps his own production company. He's got a lot of friends and will be able to attract talent to anything he's connected to rather easily.

My best wishes go with him...

Well, he did get to work at Disney for forty years. That's pretty dang cool. Sad to leave, but, 99.999999999% of the planet isn't so lucky. And I'm sure he'll do well.

I wonder about the timing. If Surrogates came out and tanked, wouldn't it be an easy argument to make it was time for a shake up? And if it comes out and is a smash hit, won't that make the decision to get rid of Cook seem ill-considered? Just wondering.

"He had the Mouse in his DNA."

And that is why he was fired. Can't have that at the Mouse House anymore. What do they know?

I had high hopes for Iger but now it seems the rumors that he's a polite Eisner are true. Sadly, this is the way Disney treats all its staff. It's just unusual for it to happen in upper management. Dick Cook's surprise guests were the hit of the show because they were a surprise and they were the only surprise the expo offered. Dick Cook's presentation was full. If thousands more people had shown up what would they have done with them. Iger is an idiot.

So, who's going to be next on the creative "hit list"? There are a few still in Imagineering. But I seriously doubt they would actually fire the head of the division (Rasulo). He's too much of a player. They'll probably go down the list until they finally hit a creative executive.

Not to troll, but...

HEADLINE: Megacorporation acts like megacorporation.

None of the 'suprises' were that surprising?? I predicted most of them.

Cook doesn't have a good record at the moment, sad as it is. He does know a few people though.

He was against bringing back hand-drawn animation. Forget him.
