Sorcerous Casting...

Peter Sciretta of /film is reporting that Alfred Molina will be cast as an evil sorcerer opposite Nick Cage(Sorcerer) and Jay Baruchel(Apprentice) in Walt Disney Pictures "The Sorcerer's Apprentice." One of Disney's favorite Cast Members, Jon Turteltaub is directing the modern day take on the classic animated sequence in "Fantasia" that Disney fans have loved so much. Will it prove magical?

Time will tell...

Adios Sapito.

I just dont see how this could work. Mickey is what made the other one so popular. Once you take away the animation or change the characters it loses all it appeal.

Actually the music is what made Sorcerer's Apprentice work. Fantasia was pure symphonic ecstasy.

Mola Ram you just can't stop paying homage to Lucas, can you?

Nicholas Cage is a terrible actor and there is no way this would end as a movie to be taken seriously or hold up over time if he is starring in it. I think it could be a good idea in theory but the casting would make all the difference

Just cast Ian McKellan and the Sorcerer and Christopher Lee as the Evil Sorcerer.

Although everyone today knows it from Fantasia the story is actually taken from an old Goethe poem. I think it could work just fine as a feature, but I'm not liking the approach so far.

I agree that Christopher Lee would have been pitch-perfect for the evil sorcerer, although I think Molina is a fine substitute. What irritates me is that they changed the character's name. The evil sorcerer's always been called Yen-Sid not Horvath. Then again the writers probably didn't even realize he had a name to begin with... Nice to know that they research their projects so thoroughly.
