This trailer rocks. It updates Trek but yet still preserves it for the fans. This trailer celebrates the mythos behind the Kirk Character and does it justice. It's too bad that the original cast never had this kind of budget and big canvas to play on, but it looks like J.J. is breaking some new ground and all the while keeping the tone, texture and flavor of Trek. It's too bad The Shat is not in it, but maybe that would have been laugh out loud funny. But it just might be better to preserve the character the way he once was (and I am not talking dying off a bridge in "Generations"). After Lucas, I swore I was done with the "prequelidas", but I am willing to give this a shot - it HAS to be better than Menace (although that wouldn't be trying too hard). I just hope Jar Jar doesn't make a cameo appearance.
On opening day I will be staying home watching my blurays of the original series in high def glory and bowing at the altar of The Shat. JJ has jettisoned the science fiction and turned it into MI:3 and spiced it up with sprawling CGI effects for a generation with ADD syndrome. At least they got one thing right in the trailer: "James T. Kirk WAS a great man but that was another life."
Hey CKSB, I am glad you mentioned BSG. At least BSG is doing something right, the Captain is going down with his ship, THAT was the way Kirk should have gone - he would have cowboyed up and let the crew go and give a final toast to the "old girl". Adama is the new Kirk, The Shat should be taking some lessons from Eddy James O.

THAT ain't James T. Kirk. Trek is over. Like Battlestar Galactica it's time for NEW franchises, not resurrecting dead ones.
That's coming from a guy who probably watched the Star Wars prequels ten times in the theatre.
The new Sulu looks hot!
Who ever said Star Trek was dead? Surely you're geeky enough to know how vibrant that franchise is and always has been.

Absolutely goddamn right.
Shweaty, you and Prop 8 Sulu need to just chill. Relax. Take it easy. Maybe together?
I love Trek. I love men in tight pants. This trailer had both.

Kev, your manliness card has been revoked. Repent at the altar of The Shat.
I'm too busy blowing into the horn of Gondor.
Just make sure it is the horn of Gondor that you are blowing, that is, if you are straight of course. If not, have a fab u lous time!
