East Gets Dream, West Gets Wonder...

It looks like Los Angeles won out over San Diego...

The Disney Cruise Line announced today that the Port of Los Angeles will be the new home of the Disney Wonder starting in 2011(they've signed a two-year agreement with a three-year extension option). That happens to be the year that the Disney Dream comes online. You can expect that if the Wonder is on the West Coast then the Dream will wind up filling the void on the East Coast.

So if you're wanting a Disney cruise without having to go to Florida then you've got two years to save those pennies. If you want to experience the new ships it looks like your going to have to sail the Atlantic(at least till 2014). Although when the Disney Fantasy makes her maiden voyage in 2012; her base will be in Florida, we don't know yet if the Magic will come out west or be used for extensive cruises based in Europe.

The Mouse's cruise line will have doubled its ships a little after operating a little more than a decade. Not as many as were expected when the line was first proposed to Eisner, but still impressive non-the-less. If it expands beyond the four ships it has now, it'll probably take another decade and a lot harder search for names. After Magic, Wonder, Dream and Fantasy what is there left?

I would have preferred the Disney Imagine/nation over Fantasy.

Celebration
Inspiration
Friendship
Romance

Anyway, good news for us Florida fans. Any news on who will get the Magic, Honor? I hope it's Florida, so that we have a choice between the old or new ships without flying to Cali. That's an entirely selfish reason, though.

Actually, it is known. The agreement that Disney signed with Port Canaveral specifies that the Disney Dream and the Disney Fantasy will be sailing from there through at least 2014.

I vote for Enchantment.

I've wondered whether those cruises are worth the money. I've seen programs on the Travel Channel revolving around the Disney Cruise Line...and it looked cool, but I dunno...

But where will the Magic go? To California? Or maybe Europe like Honor was wondering?

Carnival already has many of these, including the two names. Options that are eliminated because of this are:

-Dream
-Fantasy
-Celebration
-Imagination
-Paradise

BUT...

Disney could very well do something like Enchantment, Wish, Adventure...

Trent, remembering one more thing, said...

And of course, Carnival also has Celebration.

Sea Related:
Is Disney trying to stop rumors about a DisneySea park for WDW? The 5th park rumors are starting again. One site mentioned that DisneySea would be great addition to WDW. Someone else mentioned that it might be in development. A day or two later that blog site seems to have been "erased" from the Internet. This has happened before to individual sites that mention a possible fifth gate. I'm just stating that it is a rumor, and that it's strange that any mention of it seems to drop off the radar.

This post about a 5th gate has been mysteriously removed said...

WORTH THE MONEY. As a 5-time Disney cruiser, I love DCL. If you love Disney and unlimited food, then you'll love it too.

And there is NO way current WDW management will build a DisneySea at WDW. They don't even want to refurbish Test Track with a Honda sponsorship, let alone build a $4 billion theme park. Maybe DECADES down the round, but right now, DCA is consuming most of the American parks budget right now.

And thank God for that. It's about time that serious, and I do mean SERIOUS, effort is expended on the Anaheim 2nd gate. All of WDW's parks are great. Anaheim finally gets a second park after 50 years, and it's an embarrassment. DCA needs to be made worthy of carrying the Disney name and reputation, and if that means sucking all of the available major capital expenditure that the company is willing to make on its domestic resorts, then so be it. Anaheim has had to suffer from a 3rd rate 2nd gate, full of clones of stale old WDW attractions, and now it's going to get one of Florida's old hand me down ships. So we deserve all the money that's being spent on DCA to bring us completely new, unique and first rate Disney environments, shows and attractions.

^ Well, I wasn't saying DCA consuming the American budget was a bad thing... just that it's the reason a DisneySea won't be built in WDW. In fact, I'm VERY glad DCA is getting all the money it can, for it's always been the ugly duckling of Disney's American theme parks.

Excuse me for completely derailing the subject, Honor.
